PFW: Gareth Pugh Fall/Winter 2009

Showing his fall collection as a large-screen video projection instead of a runway show, Natasa Vojnovic as a Gothic model paraded his looks throughout the video. Gareth Pugh knows he's often being considered pulling references from futurism and sci-fi, so he stressed clearly that,"This is not from a spaceship, it's from under the ground. I wanted it to feel earthy."
The collection was graphic and strong, featuring a breast-baring, slashed shirt worn with pleated, oversize palazzo pants, a bubble coat and several variations on a spiky pin motif. The designer presented a new silhouette, which was the inverse of his signature triangular shape he's known for, giving a capelike volume to various jackets and coats. The footwear was divine, sky high platforms which came in over the knee and a bootie version. I'm sure after the presentation, editors would be very anticipated to visit the showroom, because ultimately, quality and texture is impossible to judge just by watching the video presentation.
